Your Top 5 Questions About Booking a Senior Photographer — Answered

Everything you need to know before you book so you can walk into your session feeling confident, excited, and 100% yourself.

Hey, future senior! I get it senior year is a lot. Between college apps, senior activities, and trying to actually enjoy your last year of high school, figuring out how to book a photographer can feel like just one more thing on your to-do list. But here’s the truth: your senior portraits are one of the only things from this season that you’ll still have on your walls 20 years from now. So, let’s make sure you feel totally informed and zero percent stressed. Here are the top five questions I hear from seniors (and their moms!) every single week.

When should I book my senior session and is it too late?

This is hands down the most asked question I receive. The short answer? Book earlier than you think you need to.

Most Tampa Bay photographers, myself included, start booking fall seniors as early as spring of junior year. Seriously. The golden hours of Tampa Bay senior season are September through November, when the Florida light is soft, the humidity drops, and the beach, parks, and downtown St. Pete are absolutely dreamy. Those dates fill up fast.

Real Talk Example

Every summer I have seniors reach out in August hoping for a September date — and my calendar is already full. If you’re a rising senior reading this in spring or early summer, right now is the perfect time to reach out. Spots for fall 2026 are already being reserved.

How do I choose the right photographer for me, there are so many options!

Yes, there are! And that’s actually a good thing it means you get to be picky. Here’s my honest advice: don’t just go with whoever’s cheapest or whoever your school recommends. Your senior portraits should feel like you not a cookie-cutter package shot in a gymnasium.

When you’re comparing photographers, look for these things:

  • Consistent style. Does their entire portfolio look cohesive, or are photos all over the place? You want someone who has a clear, signature look.
  • Personality fit. You’ll be spending 1–3 hours with this person. Do they seem fun? Relaxed? Do they make their clients look comfortable?
  • Location variety. Tampa Bay has incredible spots — beaches, downtown murals, parks, architectural gems. A great photographer knows how to use them.
  • Communication. Did they respond quickly? Do they make you feel like a VIP, not just a booking?

Suzie’s Approach

Every single session I do starts with a consultation because I want to know YOUR vibe before we ever pick up a camera. Are you a beach girl? A downtown-chic type? Into florals and open fields? That conversation shapes everything, from location to the shot list to even how I direct you during the session.

What should I wear and how many outfits do I bring?

Okay, this one gets me SO excited because outfits can genuinely make or break a session. The goal is to look like the best, most elevated version of yourself not like you’re wearing a costume or something you’d never normally put on.

A few golden rules:

  • Avoid overly busy patterns: Small stripes, tiny florals, and loud logos tend to distract from your face in photos.
  • Outfit count: Bring 2–4 outfits that represent different sides of you. A casual look, a dressy look, maybe something beachy or sporty — variety gives your gallery range.
  • Solid colors and timeless cuts: Solid colors and timeless cuts photograph beautifully and will look just as stunning in 10 years as they do today.
  • Don’t forget accessories: A hat, a layered necklace, or a statement earring adds dimension without overwhelming the photo.

Example: Alyssa at St. Pete Pier

Alyssa came to her session with a flowy two-piece sundress, a retro look, and a beachy white linen set. Each outfit worked beautifully with a different location, and her gallery felt like a full story — not just a single vibe. That’s exactly what we’re going for.

Where will we shoot, and can I pick my own location?

One of my favorite parts of the process is choosing locations because Tampa Bay is absolutely stunning, and most seniors don’t even realize how many incredible spots are right in their backyard.

Some of my go-to favorites: Honeymoon Island, Fort De Soto Beach, Downtown St. Pete, Safety Harbor, Philippe Park, Downtown Dunedin, UT Tampa Campus, Open Fields & Wildflowers, and In-Studio sessions.

Yes, you absolutely can pick your own location! I love when seniors come to me with inspo or a specific place that feels meaningful to them their favorite local coffee shop, a neighborhood with stunning murals, a park they grew up visiting. If it photographs well and fits your vibe, we’ll make it work.

Example: Ella’s Gallery Session

Ella wanted something extra from her beach session so we shot at the Whitehurst Gallery in the Tampa Bay area for a moody, editorial, artsy feel. The location perfectly matched her personality, and her photos look absolutely nothing like a typical Florida senior shoot. That’s the magic of a customized experience.

What’s included, and how much does a senior session cost?

Let’s talk about the investment because I believe in being completely transparent about this. Senior portrait photography isn’t just paying for someone to take pictures. You’re investing in a full experience and in images that your family will genuinely treasure forever.

When you book with me, here’s what you can expect:

  • A pre-session style consultation to plan outfits, locations, and your shot list
  • A fully styled, personalized session (not a rushed assembly line!)
  • Professional editing with my signature warm, timeless editing style
  • A private online gallery to view, share, and download your images
  • Optional print and wall art packages because these deserve to be printed

Think of it this way

You’ll spend more on prom shoes that you’ll wear once. Your senior portraits? You’ll display them, share them, post them, gift them, and look back at them for the rest of your life. The investment is worth it and you deserve images that actually look like you.

Pricing details, packages, and availability are all on my website. And if you’re ever unsure what package is right for you, just reach out I’m happy to help you figure out what makes sense for your family’s budget and vision.

Ready to make it happen?

Spots are limited — especially for fall sessions. If you’re ready to book or just want to chat about what your perfect session could look like, I’d love to hear from you.
